36a: Gena produced anteriorly on each side, visible in frontal view as large tooth on each side of apex of rostrum, laterad (towards the side) of mandible; dorsal surface with obvious, recumbent, scale-like setae; body surface lacking metallic sheen; length 12 mm or more. Ithyceridae p.453
36b: Gena not produced anteriorly, upper surface glabrous or with fine, hair-like setae; body surface often with distinct metallic sheen; length variable, mostly < 10 mm.
