Today's Route Stats:

   Distance:  4.9 miles

   Elevation Gain:  800  feet

   Elevation Loss:  800 feet

Our original goal was to hike from Willow Spring to Cottonwood Spring on Day 7.  Rich and I were both beat and exhausted, and knew we would not be able to make the 9 miles to Cottonwood in one day.  Plus, the weather was warming up, and the potholes were drying up.  But we had padded our itinerary with one extra day.  Rich and Ben didn't have return flights from Page until the morning of November 2.  So we decided to split up the last two days into 2-1/2 days.  This would require at least one dry camp.

Getting around Fern Glen was much harder than I remembered, although I was 18 years younger the last time I did it.  I think we found some water in Fern Glen, then carried 4 or 5 liters to our camp for a dry camp that night.
