I had hiked this section before, so I knew it would not be difficult. There were no large side canyons to deal with. We wanted to camp somewhere in Tuckup close to water and our exit canyon. There is always water in Schmutz Spring, but it is out of the way and not very easy to get to. Another place where I've previously found water is in the Tuckup drainage where it narrows to a tight canyon, and where the "trail" leaves the drainage to avoid these narrows. When I was there a few years ago, there were deep potholes in this dark and a somewhat foreboding canyon. But when we got to bed of Tuckup, we found nice potholes on the Esplanade nearby. So we set up camp there. We spent the afternoon lazing around under the overhang near our camp.
